"The Bay Area Jiu-Jitsu Championships is proud to announce our first annual competition on November 14th at Chipman Middle School in Alameda, CA! This will be a friendly tournament to get competitors more experience fighting on the mat.
All grappling styles are welcome to register for the 2009 BAJC, although all competitors must wear a gi on that meets IBJJF standards on the day of competition.
We have added novice divisions for white belt competitors with 6 months of experience of less. This will be an excellent opportunity for first-time competitors to get their feet wet against people of their own skill level!" - http://www.bayareachampionships.com/

Yeh I was bout to say... Bay Area Championships looks like the better tournament to do... For you fresh white belts, that wanna compete for the first time, they have the 6 month and under division.. I shall be doing this one

I will not be watching any video that might make me hurl. I wash my stuff so I am exempt from watching it. Ya know what I want, its not a water bottle - its a One World Jiu Jitsu t-shirt! Im gonna take a sharpie to my fruit of the loom and make one myself!!!

I'll see what I can do about the OWJJ shirts... maybe you can write that on the testimonial.
There were nastier videos out there... I was trying to keep it clean. :)

That video is FOUL but effective. This leads me to ask, when was the last time the mats were disinfected?

Thats nasty Fook, and I think thats enough with the gross vids.
Moving on...Last night two guys are rolling and one guy puts the other in a choke. The guy getting choked stops moving while the choker keeps advancing the pressure. The guy taps just before passing out and says I thought you would let go if I played possum. The other guy says "I'm not a bear."
Is there any moral to this story?
Posted by: MikePru | November 04, 2009 at 11:57
The mats are supposed to be cleaned every day... but I'm not sure if that's happening. I mopped it up myself on Saturday before Judo class since I got there early.
That guy's new nickname is possum.
Posted by: Meaty | November 04, 2009 at 12:29
The moral of the story is: "You tappy tappy or you nappy nappy"
Yeah someone needs to mop it at least 3 times a week because "PJ" ain't doin it!! (Yes I called u out u muddafucka u!)
Posted by: f00k | November 04, 2009 at 13:17
Not sure if this is right.
Is it . . . Bears don't eat possums? :-)
Sorry could resist . . . Kidding aside, just throwing this out there, was thinking of the following:
1. For the person on offense, keep advancing and putting the pressure on until you get the finish (or the kill in the animal world). Never assume you have the finish.
2. For the person defending, it is one thing to turtle or possum to be 'safe', however you need to keep moving to improve your position. In fact by restricting your movement you are actually making your current position worse.
3. Which then directly maps to the first comment, yet from the defending person's vantage point, it is probably a very bad assumption to have that your opponent will relinquish a 'finish' (ever)
Collective thoughts?

"Mr. Madison, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

That movie is timeless.

Like Fook said... keep it simple... tappy tap or nappy nap.
Don't think of defense as a "safe place", be more aggressive, defense is merely a transition into an attack.
Posted by: Meaty | November 04, 2009 at 15:23
I hope the possum isn't who I think it is...
As for the mats, I don't mind hitting them with a mop if I get in early. (Anything to avoid gaping flesh wounds)
Posted by: Isaac B | November 04, 2009 at 15:44
I didn't want to ask who the possum was, but I think he just gave himself away.......^^
Posted by: Marco | November 04, 2009 at 16:29
I will give everyone a chance to clown me, but I ordered grapple socks...my feet need to stay off the mat - whereas I do not. So we made a comprimise. I will debut them tonight if I can ever get out of work...which I am going to do right now!!!
Posted by: Tom Gaughan | November 04, 2009 at 17:17
The moral of the possum story is "Let him go to sleep" otherwise how will they learn that touching fire actually hurts. Aw man that beginners white belt tourney looks tempting...
Posted by: Lancaster | November 04, 2009 at 23:03
WTF.... I am confused about all this possum pie crap!!! keep the choke hold until they shit their bloomers...(j/k) Mo way too much thinking...Tom nice sock's, my order is in!!!

I like Mo's answer, he put some thought into it. For those of you trying to figure out who the possum is its not Isaac B.

LOL Marco..Man I thought Jacare was fighting on this strikeforce card..
BTW The real moral is that there is no bears or possums in jj. Only snakes, turtles, butterflies and spiders.
